Volute
VOLUTE SPRING
- Feature
-
In case of the volute spring, when the shaft load works at the bottom, the load increases almost in straight line, along with transformation, and the sheet at the bottom (which has a big diameter) contacts the left side in order. After contacting the left side, this sheet doesn't work as spring any longer so load rapidly increases against displacement at over a certain load, Because of this characteristic, the spring can be protected from excessive load so it is mostly used for the part that receives big load in small place. In addition, this spring can make an effect of reducing vibration caused by friction between sheets. The stress of the volute spring is caused mostly by distortion of the sheet, The stress by the sheet's curvature is considered, which influences the stress distribution on the spring so the fatigue life can be small,
